Keen-eyed visitors taking guided tours of the New York State Capitol will find the State Seal everywhere: carved in stone and wood, embedded in stained glass windows, pressed into doorknobs, and of course on every state flag. When in the Assembly Chamber, look just above the fireplaces. There you will discover older versions of the seal that date back to the earliest days of statehood, where Liberty and Justice are seated instead of standing tall.
